Cabo San Lucas - Part Dos.

I went into Target this morning and nonchalantly said, "hola!" to the lady greeting me at the front. Unfortunately for me, she was indeed Hispanic... which meant she probably took offense to what I had said. It's just habit! Our high school spanish came back to us REALLY quickly while we were in Cabo, and Jeff and I soon began to compete in who could hold the best conversation with the Riu Palace workers.

One night when we got back from dinner, I desperately wanted a piece of the Riu cheesecake. Jeff sweetly complied and called room service and ordered a piece for me. Thirty minutes later, I was almost asleep and there was still no cheesecake, so Jeff called room service back to cancel our order. Of course, we weren't worried about getting charged (All-Inclusive includes late-night cheesecake), Jeff was just trying to be nice and not have one of the workers make the trek up to our room on the 4th floor. Needless to say, it was a five minute conversation, where I only heard one side of it and it sounded something like this:

"Hola! Yo necessito cancel mi ordero.....Si.......No, terminado........no queso.......no cak-ay.....habla ingles? Yo ordered cheesecake....queso-cake..... No quiero cheesecake anymore.... Si..... habla ingles? Yo necessito terminidad mi ordero para cheesecake....." and so on.... I was dying laughing by the end. We did receive two phone calls from the front desk afterward making sure they had our 'order' right. Needless to say ten minutos later, we received cheesecake. Suprisingly it wasn't a plate of cheese.

On Monday morning (or was it Sunday?), Jeff decided we needed to go take a look at the famous 'rock' in Cabo and tour 'Lover's Beach' right by there. (I have NO idea why it's called this... it's really not any big deal). He wanted to rent a wave runner and cruise on out there. Well, as I mentioned in the earlier post (at least I think I did) the swells were humongous, so they weren't running the jet skis for the day (thank the Lord!) The beach people recommended us walking down a ways and catching a water 'taxi' (and I use that word loosely) over there. For sure, this would be safer, I thought.

I am SOOO thankful that we didn't take Jet Ski's (Jeff is too, I think). We would have died, I'm sure of it. Either by accident, or by Jeff putting us too close to the cliffs and a wave crashing us into it. As it is, Cesar (our 'guide'), put our 'taxi' (a.k.a. river raft) close enough to the cliffs that my knuckles were turning white as I held on. (Did I mention he had a CD player on the boat and was blaring Michael Jackson "Black or White"). Ha.

It was totally worth it though. We saw 'Mexican Turkeys' (also known as Pelicans), seals and lots of fish in the little glass bottom window of the boat. I think even Cesar was getting scared at a certain point that we were getting too close. I think it's probably pretty calm normally, just not the day we decided to go. People, it was $10 to go out there... and MORE than worth it!!!! I'm so glad Jeff suggested this... I would totally recommend it.

Can you see the seal at the bottom trying to get up to the other seal? Every time the waves would rise, this little seal (Albert) would try to reach the seal that was just being lazy in the sun (Carl). Soooo cute.

On this particular night, Jeff decided we needed to go to CABO WABO. Wooo-hoooo. The pictures I had looked up on this place before we left were WAY more 'crazy' than I would ever picture in a vacation setting. It looked loud and 'rockin' with the band. Needless to say, Jeff just wanted to check it out. Can I just tell you that we were one of three couples there? We watched the Lakers game and ate a YUMMY cheeseburger and nachos. It was actually really good food, and afterward we were looking for an ATM and stumbled upon a lot of merchant shops. They were soooo trying to jip us... but we weren't having it! Jeff tried to bargain them down, but they wouldn't budge... and neither would we! We went home that night empty handed!

Jeff tried on a Dallas Cowboys version of the Nacho Libre mask.

The Infinity Pool

The next night, Jeff had a massive sunburn. I have pictures, but Jeff is holding them hostage from my blog... and in an effort to be a submissive wife, I'm trying my best to resist posting them. It was awful (and this is the part where I get to say, "I told you so!"). His first words to me that evening were, "I so wish I had listened to you..." That's what you get when you are virtually ON the equator and basting in the sun with nothing but 4 SPF suntanning oil. No, I may not have gotten an awesome 'tan', but I'm certainly not burnt and will not get skin cancer as a result of my trip to Cabo San Lucas.

Unfortunately for us, this was also the same night we had reservations at the VERY romantic Edith's. Ahhhh..... it was wonderful. I wish Jeff had been feeling better because he would have so enjoyed it more, but oh well. He barely touched his chicken fajitas (which he tried at ALL the restaurants we went to), and the waiter was concerned until Jeff said he wasn't feeling well. The sweet waiter laughed and said, "oh...hangover?" Jeff simply replied...."sunburn!". Ha.

Jeff was picture happy. I was happy to not be on the other end of the camera for once.

Cabo San Lucas - Part Uno.

I decided this morning to just do this thing in parts. I'm not ever going to have time (or make time) to sit down and do it all in one sitting, so I'm just going to take it as it comes. I'm post the first two or so days of our Mommy and Daddy Vacation. Whew... it was so much fun. I was almost giddy leading up to it. J. and I have been planning this thing for FOUR years... and it more than lived up to our expecations. We looked at this as a 'second honeymoon'... a post-law-school-post-baby-post-passing-the-Bar-moon. Ha. Try to explain that one in spanish.

We had planned on going to Gloria's on Thursday night after we dropped the Bug and Georgia off, but we didn't have any power due to the horrendous storms that came through. I had just had swim lessons with B. but we decided to go anyway. (It's really fun trying to put make-up on and attempting to make your half-way dried chlorine-hair look decent in the dark). We had a great time, and all the while we were hoping we'd get home to a freshly-powered house. We hoped wrong. Jeff hadn't even begun packing, it was 9:45 and we had no power. Nobody around us had power.... we lit the candles we could find and tried to pack, but to no avail. Jeff set his alarm on his phone for 4:30, just in case the power didn't come on before then so he would get up and pack anyway. (Did I mention we had things in the dryer that weren't all the way dry that we needed to take?)

The power came on around 2 a.m. We got up, finished packing and then went back to sleep around 3. Our alarm went off at 5. Ugh. Rough start. Got to the airport at 6:30, and it was CRAZY. Sooo many people there early on Friday a.m. We made it though.

We flew threw Houston and then onto Cabo. It's totally different than the 'other side' of Mexico that I've been to. It's total desert on one side of the road, and then on the other side it's lush palm trees and tropical plants. It was amazing. We felt like we were really in Mexico... like Nacho Libre Mexico. (They LOVE Nacho Libre, by the way).

We got there and got settled into our Jacuzzi Suite. Yup... J. sprung for the best room in the place. (Thank you, sweetie). And we immediately decided it was well worth the upgrade. We had our own private ocean-front jacuzzi on our terrace. (Pictures will come later... I guess I didn't take those until a few days into it). We explored the hotel and then ate a late lunch and sat by the pool. We CRASHED around 5:30, and with all hopes of going out for dinner that night, we didn't wake up until 9:45... ordered room service and back to bed for us.

Lobby.

Making dinner reservations. Most strenuous daily activity.
Seriously. It involved a lot of stairs from our room to the lobby.

One side of the resort.

The pool was AWESOME. Two pools - an activity pool and then a 'quiet' pool. Needless to say, we hung out on the quiet side. I read 3 books and listened to John Mayer and Kelly Clarkson on my iPod. Heaven. The food was great... J. and I had both done South Beach before we left and we gained at least half of the weight we lost back on the trip. Hey, that's what it's for, right? Nachos, pizza, french toast, umbrella drinks, pasta, soft-serve ice cream.... yuuuummmmmyy.

Poolside.

Hesitant to post this pic... oh well.

The first night out, we went to the much-recommended "Office". It was right on the beach, literally, our feet were in the sand. The food was awesome, and they had live music. Much like the music at Sambuca. Very refreshing and relaxing. More tomorrow.

By Saturday night, the waves were HUGE. They canceled a lot of the activities (or at least moved them down the beach where the 'swells' weren't as big.

Hotel Lobby before dinner.
(Beware there will be lots of this same pic, just different outfits!)

By the Office.

In front of the Office.

Homemade tortillas. Yummmm.

Not Me! Monday

I've never done a Not Me! post before, but I thought this warranted one. Here goes.

I did not wake up at the crack of dawn yesterday morning to read the next chapter in the Teeny Bopper Classic, Twilight. I did not then proceed to read while my precious son was eating his Eggo waffle and watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Not me!

I did not forego all of my housework yesterday, including washing our clothes, folding the laundry that has not been sitting in the dryer for three days, putting away the dishes and taking out the trash, in order to read a few more un-interesting pages in my book. I did not drive thru Sonic yesterday for lunch... and I most certainly did not read my book while I waited.

I did not manage to bring Edward up in every conversation I had yesterday. I did not have to resist every temptation to read the last page of the book, and I did not look up the preview for the next movie. No, not me!

After all that I did NOT do yesterday, I definitely did not stay up until midnight finishing the Epilogue. I did not find the book interesting at all, and I most certianly will not be getting the next book today. Nope, you've got it all wrong... not me!!!

Fourteen Months - Almost

B. has been so much fun lately. I can't believe I've turned into one of "those" moms that says with each coming month, "This is the most fun age EVER!" I have to confess... it IS!! B. is all over the place. He's into everything, he's curious, he's bright, he's a hefty eater and he's such a HOOT! He makes me laugh almost every day (while making me just as frustrated almost every day).

He's totally understanding of what a 'No' is and what a 'Yes' is. He is turning into his daddy more and more every day. He wants to figure it out HIMSELF... yet he gets frustrated if he can't do it right. With the little shape sorter, he tries to push the shapes in SOOOO hard, he turns red in the face! Occasionally he'll get one in, but if I try to point to the right shape, he pushes my hand away, as if to say, "Mom, I'm a big boy... I can do it." I love that about him... It's one of the things I love best about the Hubbs, so why am I surprised that I find it so endearing in our son?

B. and Georgia are the very BEST of friends. It's been an absolute joy to watch them grow in their interaction. They play chase and B. digs her toys out of her house and then will crawl to her and hand them to her (even when she doesn't want them). When we get home, he IMMEDIATELY wants out of my arms when he sees Georgia and they seriously tackle each other. (I've yet to get a video of this). They really do almost everything together now. Wherever he is, she is. Wherever she is, he is. It's totally adorable.

B. babbles - A LOT... and it's gotten to the point where he looks at me as if I should know what he's saying. I don't. I could swear I've heard him say 'up' a few times... and he DEFINITELY calls Jeff 'DaDa'... very distinctly in fact. He basically yells it when he sees a picture of him, sees his truck pull up or if he walks in the door. It's as if he's absolutely positive that he's calling him the right thing. He also points to Georgia and says "Duh". I consider this to be "dog". I mean, come on... you've got to give him one!

One of the best parts of our day is waiting for J. to get home. We eat dinner and then we change in our jammies and play in B.'s room and wait. Both Georgia and the Bug constantly look out the window. I'm not sure he totally knows what he's looking for, but when that white truck pulls up, he figures it out! (In fact, the other day, Jeff had my car, and B. kept pointing out the window and saying "DaDa" and then he'd look at me - all confused. Melted my heart).

I'm so excited to see the coming changes this next month. He's absolutely becoming my Little "Big" Man. It's awesome.

Update on "A Good Read"

Okay, so boy did ya'll ever come through on my request for some good beach reads. I got so many suggestions! Since I'm not allowed to take any book that would require notes in the margin of my thoughts, underlining or big stars out to the side, I needed some easy page turners! Well... much to my surprise (or should I say dismay?) MANY of you suggested the Twilight series.

Let me back up here. I think Vampires are weird. I think people who are into Vampires are weird. I never liked Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I hate Charmed and think all things 'Sci Fi' are crazy. Needless to say, I've been avoiding this series like the Plague. Everyone kept saying, "no, Becky, it's not like that..." My sister even chimmed in and said, "Oh, it's such a beautiful love story... it's not 'vampire-ish' at all! You'll love it."

At some point during the responses, I decided it was time to make a choice. I went to B&N yesterday and got three books: A Mary Higgins Clark book (I LOVED these in H.S.); a Nora Roberts romance novel (don't judge me... I LOVE her movies on Lifetime); and... you guessed it Twilight.

I picked it up last night and began to read... I was just going to see if it was even worth taking on my trip. After the fifth chapter last night (and sixth this morning), why am I in love with a Vampire???? Are you kidding me? I told Jeff last night that I have no idea what my fascination is with him. I hate even saying vampire. It's creepy... yet I can NOT put the book down. I totally plan on having to pick up the next two before we even leave for vacation!!!

Thanks for the suggestions!!!! (Read the comments if you want others!!)

Oh, and Jennifer Moreman, I definitely have Summer at Tiffany and will be taking that with me as well... it's been on my 'To Read' list!!

Oops.

B. took a little fall - straight into his toy basket. Oops.

Spray Ground

This morning, a few girls and their kiddos got together at a spray ground in Frisco. I was super anxious to see how B. did, as he takes steps here and there, but mostly crawls. I thought that maybe he would take off because he LOVES playing with water and water faucets and everything to do with it.

Nope, I was wrong. He mostly didn't want me to leave his side, hence not many great pictures. He (sweetly) held on for dear life to my pinky finger as he walked from 'station' to station. He totally can do it on his own, I just don't think he knows he can quite yet. The water was definitely cold and it wasn't too hot outside, so I think it kind of scared him too.

We had a fun time though, and will hopefully be visiting lots of spray grounds this summer!

A Good Read?

Okay Ladies (and the few gents that read this)... I'm in need of some good BEACH reads. I'm in the process of reading 3 books right now, but they're all pretty deep, and although I desperately want to finish them, I'm thinking I don't want to read about shepherding a child's heart or what captivates a woman's soul while sitting on a beach. (Do I sound totally shallow, or are you sistas feelin' me?) I feel like these books are wonderful, but they're work to get through... does that make sense? I kind of just want those books that are mindless... that make you laugh until you cry. The kind of book that I would not be able to put down and have to finish just to see how it turns out.

Although I love her, I'm kind of Karen Kingsbury-ed out. I've read a ton of her books and I'm kind of taking a break. Any other suggestions for good, shallow, mindless books for the beach?
